Bed Bugs Arizona Hotels
If you’re staying in a hotel, beware. Bed bug prevalence is on the rise, and hotels and motels are some of their favorite hangouts. In fact calls for bed bugs services throughout Arizona are on the rise. A good indication of the growing problem is that you may have arrived on this page by searching some form of bed bugs Arizona hotels like thousands of other visitors. These pesky critters can cause severe itching and welt-like bites, and it’s costly to get rid of them if they follow you home. What’s more, research suggests they can cause financial distress, anxiety, and social isolation. In fact getting these critters seems to be a lot easier than getting rid of them. Consumers should be aware they are excellent hitchhikers and are often brought home hidden in or on luggage or clothing. Taking a few precautionary steps can save you an unwanted headache.
“The quickest way to bring a bed bug infestation home is by staying overnight in a hotel or motel.”
The first step would be to search online using some form of bed bugs Arizona hotels. Usually this will produce a list of registries where consumers have reported bed bugs. If you find a location that you intend to stay at…don’t panic…call the location for verification and find out if they have a preventative program in place.
Upon arrival to your room…do not unpack or place your luggage on the floor or bed. These are great locations for the critters to hitch a ride and you do not want to find out after the fact the room is infested.
Begin your inspection with the mattress, as this is the most common area for bed bugs. These critters tend to nest in close proximity to their food source (people). Gently remove the sheet and mattress pad inspecting the four corners of the mattress and box spring.
Another important place for bed bugs that is often overlooked is the luggage rack or valet. Inspect carefully, concentrating on cracks and crevices. Bed bugs maybe found on the luggage rack if they have come in on other travelers’ luggage.
If you want to do a more in-depth inspection:
Inspect along the edging, seams and other small areas of the mattress and box spring. Continue your inspection with the headboard. In most hotels the headboard is attached to the wall. Use a flashlight to look in the crack between the wall and the headboard. Using a blow dryer set to hot is a great way to draw the critters out of hiding. They are attracted to body heat when ready to feed.
Next inspect the furniture around the bed, and any pictures hanging on the wall. Bed bugs are known to hide behind framed pictures and around or on furniture. Make sure you inspect all the cracks and crevices of the night stand, including screw holes, joints and in the drawers. Once you have insured that these areas do not have bed bugs move on to other furniture in the room, especially upholstered chairs. As you are inspecting pay special attention to the seams.
If you find bed bugs in your hotel room remove your luggage and clothing immediately, notify the front desk and ask to be moved to a new room, which is not next door to the room where you found bed bugs. If possible moving to another hotel is the best option as bed bugs are great travelers and easily move from one room to another.
When staying overnight it’s a good idea to bring along a large plastic bag to put your dirty clothes into. Bed bugs can smell the chemical that we leave behind on our clothing and are attracted to this smell. Putting dirty clothing into a plastic bag will reduce the chance that you will get bed bugs on these items, and then bring them home with you.
If you stay overnight and are worried about bed bugs take precautions to reduce the risk of bringing bed bugs into your home. Immediately launder all the clothing you brought with you, or seal inside a plastic bag until it can be laundered. Running clothing items through a complete dryer cycle will produce enough heat to eradicate bed bugs.
Vacuum your suitcase, inside and out. Once you have finished vacuuming your suitcase immediately discard the contents of the vacuum in a plastic bag which can be sealed tightly shut and then put in the trash. The suitcase can then be stored inside a large plastic bag or box to insure, in the unlikely event that bed bugs did hitchhike, they cannot move from your suitcase into your home. Arizona residents are advised to seal luggage in clear plastic and leave out in the summer sun as a natural eradication method.
Footwear can be wiped down with hot water to reduce the risk of them being infested with bed bugs. Using a blow dryer set on high heat is very effective in drawing these critters out. Extended exposure to high heat above 125 degrees will eradicate bed bugs.

“Spray anything and everything with the most powerful bug killer juice available and pray it works.”
Looking for bed bugs Arizona information? You’re not the first person to visit, and unfortunately you will not be the last. Arizona is under attack by an ever-increasing wave of bed bugs. If you or someone you know has an infestation the only thing on your mind is how to get rid of these critters FAST and how much will it cost.
When it comes to bed bugs Arizona consumers have options. You can get some over the counter pesticides and attack the problem immediately. Experienced exterminators refer to this method as the ole’ “spray and pray.” Spray anything and everything with the most powerful bug killer juice available and pray it works. We also like to add…”and pray no one has their health endangered by exposure to harsh chemicals.”
Most of us like to save a little money and want a quick remedy. Be WARNED…when dealing with these critters, attempting to solve the problem on your own eventually leads to frustration and the need to call in a professional. Bed Bugs are tough critters and difficult to get rid of…even for experienced exterminators. Spraying harsh chemicals in and around areas that humans sleep is a recipe for disaster.
Hiring a good bed bugs Arizona exterminator can be a task within itself. Exterminators will offer liquid type treatments, chemical-free options such as heat or cold treatments, and options that combine these methods. Liquid treatments consist of spraying pesticides in and around bedding. This is risky and does not penetrate the eggs…meaning several re-applications will be necessary to control new hatchings. Failing to have periodic follow up services will lead to re-infestation within 6 weeks.
Cold temperature treatments are great for eliminating adults and eggs when they are exposed. They are great in that consumers are not exposed to pesticides; however the failure rate is high due to the ability of these critters to remain hidden. These insects must be directly exposed to be effective.
Bed Bugs Arizona heat treatments can be very effective when performed properly. Adults, including those that are well hidden and eggs are eradicated with one treatment. Consumers are not exposed to harsh chemicals and they can resume normal activity upon completion of the service. The downside of heat treatments is there is no residual to protect against future infestation(s).
If you have…or suspect bed bugs don’t panic. Find a professional that has the experience to thoroughly diagnosis your infestation provide the best option(s) for your situation. We provide free inspections and evaluations. For more information about Bed Bugs Arizona give us a call.

“When the sun sets in Glendale Arizona little six-legged vampires called bed bugs come out of hiding in search of human blood.”
Whether you live in a multi-million dollar home or stay in hotel, they don’t discriminate their surroundings. Any place humans rest or sleep is the perfect breeding place. In fact from 5-Star resorts all the way down to el cheapo motel reports of bed bug bites in Glendale are increasing. As the area has become more of an international travel destination requests for bed bugs Glendale Az services have continued to rise. Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers and all it takes is for one to come in contact with your clothing or luggage and be carried home to begin a nightmare unlike anything most of us will ever experience.
Most of us are not aware of a problem until we start seeing mysterious red marks on our skin. Sometimes depending upon the person these marks will not appear for days or a week after an attack. It’s not uncommon for some to show no signs of attack at all. Consumers are advised to research hotels to ensure they have proactive control methods and not place luggage on carpet or bedding. Inspecting areas around the head board and between mattresses is also advisable. Frequent travelers should consider replacing cloth luggage with hard plastic that does not have small creases for the critters to hide in.
If you suspect a problem it’s best to call a professional ASAP. Even for an experienced professional some infestation can be difficult to eradicate. They multiply fast, and because of their small size can be difficult to find. Bed bugs are rarely seen during the day and can go weeks before they come out in search of a meal. They tend to nest near areas humans sleep and are attracted out of nesting areas at night by body heat and/or carbon dioxide.
Bed bugs reproduce 200 to 500 eggs in a life span of 12 to 18 months. The eggs hatch every 14 days, any weather above 70 degrees such as Glendale Arizona receives year round is ideal for breeding. Most bed bug cases are under reported because most people don’t know they have them or they are too embarrassed to report an infestation.
There are various treatment options for bed bugs and we can help. Liquid type treatments – spraying pesticides- may not the best option when dealing with these critters. Not all pesticides will work and those that will must get into all hiding areas to be effective. Only adults are eradicated so it will take several visits from an exterminator to finish off the new hatchings. If one or two are missed it will be just a matter of weeks before populations are re-established. Using the wrong pesticides can needlessly expose your household and pets to harsh chemicals.
Professional bed bug exterminators can select the right combination of spray, dust and bait products. Using these products to establish a protective barrier around sleeping areas combined with exclusion can provide much needed relief from these pests.

Drywood Termite Heat Treatment
Looking for Drywood Termite Heat Treatment services? Let us help! Bills Pest Termite Control is your hometown exterminator and Arizona’s Termite Experts.
Not all termites are the same…in fact Phoenix Arizona is home to at least 17 species including one of the most destructive found in the United States…Western Drywood Termites. When most consumers think of termites they envision little bugs munching away at the wood holding a home together. If left unchecked the home will fall down in short order. In reality those little wood eaters come in all sizes, shapes, colors and types. Other than sharing a common name and an appetite for wood many of these species are night and day different.
The nesting habits of Drywood Termites differ from more common subterranean types in that they live and nest above ground. Most infestations start with a couple of swarmers who burro into exposed wood. The average colony can take 7-10 years before reaching maturity. Up until that time there is usually very little, if any evidence of infestation. Other than during the swarm season drywood termites rarely leave the nest and/or seen by humans. Usually the first signs of infestation are when a homeowner discovers a reoccurring pile of fecal pellets and starts to investigate. Be then the colony is mature and the damaged wood may need replacement.
“No gas, no pesticides and a 100% kill made getting a drywood termite heat treatment a no-brainer.”
Depending upon the severity of the infestation treatment methods can range from simply replacing the infested wood, opening drywall areas and treating, full house (gas) fumigation to heat treatment(s). Each method has advantages and disadvantages depending upon the severity, locations, construction style of the home and surrounding environment. Prior to selecting any treatment method it is best to get a thorough inspection from an exterminator familiar with Arizona’s drywood termites. Often sales people will push one type of treatment for every infestation. Consumers may need to educate themselves and seek multiple evaluations.
In recent years drywood termite heat treatment services have risen to be the top choice for consumers. By raising and maintaining temperatures to 125 degrees for 10 minutes an entire colony can be eradicated. When properly done a drywood termite heat treatment is a one-shot chemical free option to eradication. While there is some prep work required by the homeowner it pales when compared to a fumigation type treatment. Homeowners are not required to vacate overnight or days on end. In fact once the room is cooled down, usually in 10-15 minutes occupants can resume normal activities. Because no gas and/or chemicals are used in heat treatments there is no risk of exposure. In general the cost to the consumer is 20-60% less versus a fumigation treatment.
The downside to both fumigation and heat treatment is there is no residual to prevent a new infestation. Consumers are advised to only consider services that include a warranty so if, and when a new infestation is discovered a new treatment is covered by the guarantee.
Wanna know about Termidor? We can help. Read our Termidor HE Reviews. Recently BASF started a marketing campaign touting a new and better Termidor. The new product has been labeled Termidor HE Copack. Is Termidor HE Copack better, a reinvention of the wheel or a desperate attempt to maintain sales?
Before staring our Termidor HE reviews, it’s important to understand a brief history. Termidor has been on the market since 2000 and with some savvy marketing by chemical giant BASF developed a reputation in the termite control world. In many parts of the country, it is considered the “go-to” product for getting rid of those nasty home invading wood eaters. Even in the Phoenix area “Termidor Fanboys” can be found that will attest it is the best thing since sliced bread and the only way to get rid of termites.
“Same ole’ Termidor with a makeover.”
The active ingredient in any pesticide is what kills the critters. In Termidor the active ingredient is Fipronil. Fipronil can be found in some pesticides and over the counter products used to control ticks and fleas on pets. Fipronil was introduced by Aventis to the US market and approved by the EPA in 1998. Aventis (Termidor) was acquired by Bayer Corp in 2002. Bayer Corp makes and distributes Imidacloprid which is the active ingredient in Premise 75 a favorite termiticide that competes directly with Termidor. As a condition of that sale Bayer Corp was required to divest interests in Fipronil (Termidor) and granted rights to BASF.
The reader’s digest version is the maker of Premise 75 leased the rights to produce and sell Termidor to BASF.
For years BASF did a great job of marketing Termidor, and because they had exclusive rights (via patent), there was no direct competition for Fipronil products. In recent years that has changed. The patent on Fipronil expired opening the door to competitors creating their version of Termidor. New releases hit the market at prices less than half the cost and immediately impacted bottom line numbers at BASF. In response, BASF first announced price cuts and now “a new formulation” called HE Copack.
Phoenix Termidor Treatment
We use Termidor along with some other products for termite control in Phoenix homes. Before using this product, we conducted our testing. Termidor does kill Arizona termites and provides reasonable residual protection. For that matter, every product we have used and tested that was labeled for termites worked. Some products are better than others. In testing and real world use, Termidor seems to fall in the middle of the pack. It has some advantages in the right situation but is not the undisputed “go-to” product when dealing with Arizona termites. In fact, for some species, it is on our “do not use list.”
In reviewing Termidor HE Copack, we find the finished product is still applied at the same strength .06 or .125%, and both contain .8lbs of Fipronil in each gallon used. One small difference is HE has a little less Fipronil (8.73%) than regular Termidor at 9.1%. So it would appear not much changed in this area. Both products (the new HE Copack and regular Termidor) will kill termites in the same manner at the same rate.
Reviewing the label (application instructions) is where most of the changes appear. Instead of applying 4 gallons every 10 feet around your home the exterminator can use only 2 gallons. Is less better?
When drilling holes through your foundation and abutting slabs the exterminator can space the holes a distance of 18 inches instead of 12 inches. Less drilling saves the exterminator time, and materials. For the consumer this could be a good thing except the label tells the exterminator to apply 2 gallons instead of 4 gallons (half the finished product) for every 10 feet. Creating a bigger gap and cutting the amount of chemical in half to cover larger areas could be a recipe for continued infestation. That might work in different parts of the country with moist soil, so much in Arizona’s dry clay soil.
Another change is the exterminator can make smaller trenches when treating a home. This would not be a bad idea except again the exterminator is using less product (2 gallons verse 4 gallons for every 10 feet).
Local exterminators, their sales people, and BASF are promoting HE as the new silver bullet in termite control at a higher cost to consumers. Using Termidor HE Copack appears only to be advantageous to the exterminator allowing services to be completed quicker, with less labor, equipment wear, and termiticide. Aside from that, it should still kill exposed termites. For more information about Termidor HE reviews or Phoenix Termidor treatment services give us a call.
Bed Bugs Phoenix – The demand for Bed Bugs Phoenix services has been on the increase for the last three years. They are showing up in hotels, airplanes, cruise ships, hospitals, movie theaters, casinos and multi-unit lodging properties across the country and in particular the Metro Phoenix area. In fact for the last ten years the Phoenix Metro area has quietly moved up towards the top of the 100 most likely cities to be bit in the United States. In 2013 Phoenix was ranked 28th, up seven positions from 2012 and the outlook does not look good as established infestations continue to move west.
These six legged vampires feed on blood and come out at night to search for food. They are small, flattened insects that easily fit into small cracks and crevices. They can be found in mattresses, mattress frames, behind headboards, behind baseboards and behind pictures. They can crawl up to 100 feet in search of food and can live up to a year without a blood meal.
“The silent invasion of Phoenix is underway and only looks to get worse.”
Bed bugs are attracted to sleeping people by body temperature, carbon dioxide and body odors. Bed bug bites are generally painless but occasionally a person will wake up to find bed bugs feeding. The bite may turn red within hours or a reaction may be delayed by a few days. Often travelers discover bites days after checking out of a hotel or resort.
Because of their habits, bed bugs are often not detected even when they feed on room occupants. Dark fecal spots, cast skins and crushed bed bugs are all signs of possible infestation. Bites may come from a variety of other insects, but when combined with the other signs of bed bugs; they can be a good indicator of their presence.
Not all insects are the same. Most insect, such as cockroaches or ants, can be eliminated by eliminating nesting areas, food and moisture sources combined with the use of pesticides. Bed bugs are different. They are not an indicator of poor sanitation or structural conditions. In most – if not all – situations, Bed bugs are unknowingly transported hidden within luggage, clothing and belongings of people. Treating nesting areas with pesticides can mean exposure to humans and is not usually effective unless it is applied directly on the critters. Since they do not nest in open areas this can be a challenge. Even if successful at killing off the adults a new batch of replacements are often ready to hatch.
Early identification of bed bugs is critical. Periodic inspection(s) of likely nesting areas can stop an infestation before it gets out of hand. The presence of bed bugs in any building is a very serious matter. When an infestation is discovered the best way to slow the spread of bed bugs is to prevent people from being exposed to them. Taking these precautionary steps can mitigate spreading the critters.
- Nothing should be removed from an infested room(s) unless it is tightly sealed in a plastic bag.
- Placing pillows, bedspreads and linens in a dryer on high heat for 20 minutes is effective at killing bed bugs and eggs. Small loads are recommended for better heat distribution. Was heated they should not be brought back into the room until after proper treatment
- Any discarded items (e.g., mattress, plastic bags, etc.) should be destroyed and immediately taken off-site so no person can salvage it and no bugs can make their way back into the room.
- Replacement mattresses and box springs should be protected in mattress cover encasements and placed into treated rooms only after follow-up inspections have not found evidence of live bed bugs. Infested mattresses and box springs should be encased immediately to lock in bed bugs and prevent them from spreading.
If you have or suspect these critters the first step is to seal off the area of infestation and call a qualified exterminator. Don’t ignore the problem. It will not go away. These bugs can spread throughout a home in no time at all. Treatment methods can depend upon the severity of the infestation, the surrounding environment, chemical sensitivities and construction type of the structure. Options for homeowners may include removal of infested items, to chemical treatment, fumigation or chemical free heat treatments. Getting a thorough inspection and evaluation is best. “The bed bug invasion of the Valley of the Sun is underway and the bugs seem to have the upper hand!”
Bed bugs are everywhere and Phoenix Arizona is no exception. The epidemic which swept the east coast 5 years ago has reached the Grand Canyon State. From Five-Star resorts to cruise ships, airliners and movie theaters the threat of infestation is just waiting to hitch a ride to your home. The demand for Bed Bug Treatment Phoenix Az services is high and expected to continue to increase.
Bed Bugs are excellent hitch-hikers and one of the main reasons this threat has been able to spread around the world. Hidden deep inside luggage creases, inside a pant cuff or under clothing tags these six legged creatures are often able to travel unnoticed from one location to another. Phoenix is an international destination for tourist from around the world and is considered by many experts as the reason for the increased demand for bed bug treatment services.
These “six legged vampires” often nest within striking distance of sleeping humans and/or pets. Their preferred target is humans and they can be often found nesting behind head boards, under mattresses, creases in pillow tops and along baseboards near beds. If a piece of furniture has steady human traffic they can be found nesting nearby. They require a steady food source to survive and multiply. Unlike similar pests they do not live on the host (human).
In colder regions of the country they have been known to go up to a year between meals. In Arizona they can live 1-4 months between meals. Typically the first signs of infestations are the red marks and/or skin irritations left after recent feedings.
Bed Bugs can be difficult to control on your own. It is best to call a professional exterminator to inspect and evaluate the problem. Depending upon the severity of the infestation treatment methods can vary from a simple steam cleaning right up to a whole structure treatment.
Chemical treatments can be effective against adults and provide residual protection, however periodic follow up services may be necessary to catch hatching eggs. Because of the nature of these critters and nesting preferences the potential for pesticide contact is high. Consumers with chemical sensitivities are advised to consider alternative treatments.
Bed Bugs exposed to consistent temperatures at or above 113 degrees will stress and perish. Using heat when accessible is a great chemical free option and the preferred method. As a preventative treatment many local hotel chains are using mattress covers and periodic heat treatments. Other chains have monthly inspections targeting the critters before they gain a foot hold.
Prior to considering any service it is advised to have a complete inspection to locate all areas of infestation and select the proper control method. Pest & Termite Control Phoenix Exterminators provides free inspections and evaluations for Bed Bug control in Phoenix.
